Tapoco Georgia

On this trip, I packed my bags and headed over the Florida state line into Georgia to explore the famous Historic Tapoco Lodge. Does this story end with me getting sick on the edge of a mountain? Well… maybe!

This trip was the perfect blend of automotive excitement and cozy mountain vibes. How so, you ask? The lodge sits right at the start of what they call the Tail of the Dragon 11 miles of intense twists and turns, considered one of the most thrilling (and challenging) roads in the country. So naturally, this is where a lot of automotive enthusiasts come for a weekend getaway.

First, we checked in and the inside felt like it was straight out of a movie. You know those Lifetime or Hallmark movies where some city girl finds herself stranded in the middle of nowhere and falls in love with a local? Yeah, that kind of vibe.

We got our room key an actual key! Say you’re a millennial without saying you’re a millennial. The lodge has multiple options: you can stay in the main lodge or pick one of the cute cabins. I chose our room for one thing and one thing only…

The clawfoot tub.

Yea, I’m a sucker for a good soak.

Enough about the room let’s skip ahead to the lodge food and, of course, the Tail of the Dragon.

The food at Tapoco Lodge was surprisingly good. We had their pizza one night and it was legit crispy, flavorful, and hit the spot after a long day. The staff was super cool and laid-back too. They made us feel welcome right away, like we were visiting family’s cabin instead of staying at a lodge.

One of my favorite things was just sitting outside and listening to the river. The sound of the water rushing by mixed with the mountain air was so peaceful and relaxing. The whole property has this cool, tucked-away vibe that’s hard to describe.

Now for the famous part the Tail of the Dragon. We took our new Jeep, which was hilarious because almost everyone else was in sports cars or on motorcycles flying around those curves. We were definitely the odd ones out haha. The road is no joke 11 miles of constant twists and turns. It’s beautiful but intense. I’ll be honest… I got pretty car sick toward the end. I have a funny photo of me looking a little green that I’ll share below!

Overall, Tapoco Lodge is a really unique and special spot. It has so much character and charm, and it’s the perfect place if you love mountains, rivers, good food, and a little adventure. I’d definitely go back especially if we take it a bit slower on the Tail of the Dragon next time.

Have you ever driven the Tail of the Dragon or stayed somewhere like Tapoco Lodge? Drop your stories in the comments! I love hearing about your adventures too.
